As a creative, usually, the world of social media and marketing yourself online is “new territory,” which is why influencer collaboration is such a valuable resource. Musicians with millions of adoring fans have even taken advantage and have shown their appreciation like The Jonas Brothers, who held a private concert for Influencers who were fans of their music. But you don’t have to be some worldwide famous band to benefit from collaborating with influencers. It’s all about understanding how you and said influencer could both help each other through this type of collaboration.
To help make the process more digestible, I’ll detail some of the ways that collaborating with influences could be an excellent resource for any creative out there. Tapping into New Audiences When it comes to influencer collaboration, usually one of the major benefits include tapping into new audiences, where you’ll be able to expand your reach to a younger demographic by collaborating with an influencer. Although Dua Lipa is not an “influencer,” Elton John followed nearly the same blueprint when they made a song together. Not only did the record help Elton tap into a younger audience, but the collaboration had a mutual benefit as it ended up being a hit for Dua Lipa. The more genuine and transparent you are when it comes to collaborations, the more inclined people are to be interested in your work. Enhance Your Relatability I mentioned it before, but when it comes to growing as a creative it’s important to be authentic and upon that relatable because it’s the only way to generate genuine interest. You wouldn’t want to watch a show of someone lip-syncing the entire time, so, “what’s the point of doing anything but being your authentic self whenever you collaborate? Additionally, it will be much easier to build connections with those in the influencer space if the connection is genuine. So even though the act of collaboration seems transactional because of the mutual benefit, if you are genuine about what you do, it won’t come across that way. Trying Something New Venturing outside your comfort zone in any creative avenue is always important, which can be true when it comes to collaboration. Working with influencers who have a different audience than yourself is key to growing your online presence, so don’t let fear keep you from trying it out. Worst case scenario, it simply falls flat, but even then, failure is the greatest teacher, so expand your horizons! If your audience is older, it would likely make much more sense to appeal to a younger demographic when it comes to collaboration. This same idea was best shown in the Elton John/Dua Lipa example, cause you want to stay fresh within the social media landscape. Hopefully, these bits and pieces of advice are helpful when it comes to your influencer collaboration pursuits, and at the end of the day, there’s no point in limiting your possibilities as a creative.
